Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week: John Ngunjiri Jr.

This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Wee is senior runner John Ngunjiri Jr. Last fall, Ngunjiri helped Cedar Ridge win the Big 7 Men’s Cross Country championships, upsetting the defending 3A State Champions Orange at Forest Hills Park in Durham. Nungjiri finished fourth overall in the individual standings at 17:05.70 to pace the Red Wolves, who finished with 50 points, edging Orange by two points. For the second year in a row, Ngunjri made the All-Conference team. Ngunjiri helped Cedar Ridge finish 3rd in the 5A Central Regionals at the Ivey Redmond Sports Complex in Kernersville on October 25. He was the top Cedar Ridge placer and finished 7th overall with a time of 16:26.41, earning a spot on the All-Central Region team. At the 5A State Championships, Ngunjiri earned a spot on the 5A All-State team, finishing tenth overall at 16:11.22. His strong finish helped Cedar Ridge finish 5th in the state. Ngunjiri is a three-sport athlete. Currently, he’s competing the indoor track & field. Last year, Ngunjiri finished 8th in the 1,600 meters at the 3A Mideast Regionals at UNC Pembroke during the outdoor track and field season. Ngunjiri has been one of the most accomplished runners for four years at Cedar Ridge and will continue to be as he ventures into his final outdoor track season this spring.
