Orange women’s basketball’s Kyla Mehl and Lily Wilson discuss win at J.F. Webb

The Orange women’s basketball team will go into its showdown with Seaforth on Tuesday in first place in the Big 7 Conference. On Friday night, the Lady Panthers dominated J.F. Webb 76-36 at Warriors Gymnasium in Oxford. Senior Maura McMurtry led Orange with 20 points, one shy of her career-high. Orange senior forward Kyla Mehl came off the bench to score a season-best 15 points as the Lady Panthers improved to 4-0 in the Big 7. Mehl is a three-sport athlete who helped the Orange women’s tennis team reach the round of 16 in the state dual team playoffs for the first time in school history last fall. Mehl is also a star soccer player. Junior Lily Wilson had five assists against the Warriors. Wilson had eleven points to open the season in a win at Riverside on November 21. Wilson scored ten points in a win over South Granville on January 9 in Hillsborough. Against Webb, Orange scored a season-high 50 points in the first half and finished with 76, the highest in a game this year. Sophomore Kassidy Tolliver added 16 points and ten rebounds, her fourth straight double-double. The Lady Panthers will play three games in four days this week. Orange will travel to Durham School of the Arts on Wednesday, then travel to Cedar Ridge on Friday.
