The Cedar Ridge men’s and women’s swimming teams had a joyous senior night at the Orange County SportsPlex on Thursday night. Hala Zafar, Davis Golden, Terra Proctor & Simon Salazar-Coronado were honored midway through the dual meet with Orange and Woods Charter. The Cedar Ridge women’s team swept its dual matches, beating Orange 84-78. The Red Wolves women also defeated Woods Charter 119-24. In the men’s meets, Cedar Ridge defeated Woods Charter 74-24. Orange won the men’s meet over Cedar Ridge 74-62. Cedar Ridge senior Hala Zafar has competed in the 3A State Championships in previous years and earned consideration for the Central Regionals. Davis Golden has not only been a competitor for head coach Amanda Jones, but also a recruiter. Golden encouraged Simon Salazar-Coronado to go out for swimming after his sophomore season. Salazar-Coronado underwent heart surgery and has competed since last year. Now, he’s been a regular competitor. In addition, Golden is a photographer who can been regularly seen at Cedar Ridge sports events. On her senior night, Terra Proctor swam in the women’s 400 freestyle relay event. Zafar finished 2nd in the 200 freestyle relay with Margaret Payton, Wren Brand and Eden Pollard. Zafar also finished third in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:07.82.
