For the second time in eight days, the Orange men’s basketball team defeated Carrboro on Tuesday night. Junior Hector Garrido scored 22 points as the Panthers pulled away from the Jaguars 55-32 inside Jaguars Gymnasium. It was just three points shy of Garrido’s career-high of 25 points, which also came against Carrboro at the Southeast Alamance Holiday Hoopla Tournament in Haw River last week. As Orange trailed early in the third quarter on Tuesday, junior Weston Cheek came off the bench to score a career-high nine points. Cheek drained two 3-pointers as the Panthers pulled away from Carrboro late in the third quarter. Orange remains tied with Seaforth and J.F. Webb for first place in the Big 7 Conference in the loss column with a 2-0 record. After the transfer of Kai Wade, Garrido has assumed the role of point guard. Last week against Carrboro, Garrido finished with a career-high 29 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds in a 78-51 win. Garrido has scored in double-figures in eight of the last nine games. Cheek is in his first year on the varsity and finished with eight points against Cummings in Burlington on December 22. Orange will return home to face South Granville on Friday night. The Vikings are coached by former Orange High linebacker and football assistant coach Mike McDaniel.
