It was another successful weekend for the Cedar Ridge wrestling team. The Red Wolves won the Coggin Hall of Fame Duals at Southwest Guilford High in High Point on Saturday, taking all five matches. Cedar Ridge is now 15-1 on the season, the best start in school history. Last Wednesday, Cedar Ridge hosted a quad match, where they defeated Broughton and Rockingham High. Junior Alejandro Briones won all three of his matches against Broughton, Rockingham and Rosewood. Briones, who opened the season by winning the 157-pound championship at the Atkins Invitational, is 22-2 on the season. He is a two-time Central Conference champion. Senior Mikey O’Melia also won all three of his matches at last week’s quad meet. He is 17-8 this season. Over the weekend, O’Melia claimed three wins, including a pinfall victory over Jaylin Talley of Eastern Randolph in a match that the Red Wolves won 45-35. Cedar Ridge sits atop the Big 7 Conference with a 2-0 record. Two weeks ago, they defeated Seaforth, which was the first conference loss for the Hawks since 2022, a span of 34 matches. Cedar Ridge will return to conference action against J.F. Webb inside Red Wolves Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Red Wolves will also compete against Cary and Louisburg in the quad.
