Cedar Ridge sophomore Juan Jaramillo earned his first Red Wolves Classic championship on November 22. Jaramillo faced a stacked field of 14 other competitors to earn his second career tournament championship at Red Wolves Gymnasium. Jaramillo outscored Ahmadullah Ahmadi of Athens Drive 19-12 in the championship match. In the semifinals, Jaramillo defeated Person’s Ryan Wilson 9-2. Jaramillo started the tournament as the #3 seed and opened by pinning Lane Thompson of Southeast Alamance in 3:32. In the quarterfinals, Jaramillo survived a gruelling match against Maddox Goble of Uwharrie Charter School, winning 11-7. After giving up the opening takedown, Jaramillo scored eleven unanswered points to take the match. Last season, Jaramillo won the championship of the Eagle Invitational in Mebane, pinning all three of his opponents. Juan finished 33-17 in his freshman season. He’s already won his first eight matches of this year. Juan’s strong finish led to Cedar Ridge finishing fifth among 30 teams, which included defending Central Conference champion Person and defending Mid-Carolina Conference champion Seaforth, which finished one point behind the Red Wolves. Juan’s brother, Favio, won his 100th career match last month with a victory in the season-opening tri-meet with Eastern Alamance and the North Carolina School of Science and Math. Cedar Ridge returns to action on Wednesday night for a quad match that includes a crucial Big 7 Conference match against Seaforth inside Red Wolves Gymnasium. Cedar Ridge will also face Wakefield and Vance County.
