Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week: Ila Diaz

This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week is sophomore runner Ila Diaz. For the second year in a row, the Cedar Ridge women’s cross country team won the regional championship this fall. Diaz has earned so much credibility among her teammates, she was voted a team Captain as a sophomore. Diaz led the lead runner for Cedar Ridge at the Ivey Redmond Sports Complex on October 25, finishing sixth. The Red Wolves finished three points ahead of Orange for the regional title. In the 5A State Championships, Diaz finished 17th with a time of 20:13.26 in Kernersville, once again leading Cedar Ridge. She was named to the All- Central Regional team. Cedar Ridge finished fourth in the state championships. Diaz runs all year long for Cedar Ridge. Last spring, she set the school record for freshman in the 1,600 meters in outdoor track & field, finishing with a time of 5:36.02. She has already started workouts for Cedar Ridge’s indoor track & field season. Diaz attended Stanback Middle School. She finished 7th in the Big 7 Conference Championships at Forest Hills Park in Durham. Diaz finished fifth at a conference meet at Carrboro High on October 1. In the spring, Diaz will continue her distance running during the outdoor track season.
