Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week: Erik Galunas

This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week is senior men’s soccer goalkeeper Erik Galunas. From the very beginning of the season when Cedar Ridge won on a muddy, humid day against Southern Alamance at Red Wolf Stadium in mid-August, Galunas has been the leader for a Cedar Ridge soccer team that reached the state playoffs. This season, Galunas had five clean sheets, including a 6-0 win over J.F. Webb at Red Wolves Stadium in Hillsborough. Gluons was a workhorse in net. In Pittsboro on October 13, Galunas made 20 saves in a 1-1 tie against Seaforth, which would reach the second round of the state playoffs. Against South Granville on October 6, Galunas made 18 saves. He has been the starting goalkeeper of the Red Wolves for the past two years. In 2024, Galunas had three clean sheets against Eno River Academy, Eastern Alamance and Vance County. Galunas was a coach on the pitch during his time in soccer. He has also been a member of the Cedar Ridge baseball team the past three years, which hosted a state playoff game last year. In the spring, Galunas will continue his role with Cedar Ridge baseball and a mainstay with Red Wolf athletics. He will graduate in June.
