Cedar Ridge senior Favio Jaramillo discusses 100th career win

Cedar Ridge wrestler Favio Jaramillo had a memorable start to his senior season. On Thursday night, Jaramillo pinned Eastern Alamance’s Jayden Batten to claim his 100th career win. Earlier in the night, Jaramillo pinned Jhonatan Saldana of Jordan-Matthews in 5:17, then claimed a forfeit win against the North Carolina School of Science & Math for career victory #99. Cedar Ridge won all three of the dual matches on opening night. Last season, Jaramillo finished fourth at 113 pounds at the Mideast Regionals at Cedar Ridge High School. He qualified for the 3A State Championships, where he defeated Bryson Wilhelm of West Rowan 15-3 in the opening consolation round at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro. Jaramillo finished second in the Central Conference Tournament at 113 pounds at Walter Williams High School in Burlington last February. In his sophomore season, Jaramillo helped Cedar Ridge capture the Central Conference Championship. In his freshman year, Jaramillo was called up to the varsity after starting the season on the junior varsity team. He becomes the fifth Cedar Ridge wrestler to win 100 career matches since 2023. Jaramillo had a great mentor in Fernando Martinez, who reached the 3A State Championship match in his weight class his senior year and now wrestles at UNC Pembroke. Jaramillo will return to action at the Atkins Invitational in Winston-Salem on Saturday.
