Women’s Cross Country: It was a banner week for Orange sophomore Reilly Jermyn. The sophomore finished first overall in the women’s cross country meet at South Granville with a time of 21:06.46. In addition, Jermyn was the top finisher at the 41st annual Greensboro Invitational, leading Orange to a first place finish among 12 teams in its race. Jermyn led a pack of 89 runners with a time of 19:49.36.
Jermyn, the younger sister of Orange senior Myles Jermyn and the daughter of Duke cross country coach Kevin Jermyn, also finished first at a Big 7 Cross Country meet at South Granville High last Wednesday. Jermyn led a pack of 59 runners with a time of 21:06.46. Orange sophomore Ava Bishop finished second at 22:19.21. Lady Panthers freshman Amantha Reddy came in eighth at 23:16.81.
Orange finished tied for second in the team standings with 53 points with Carrboro. Durham School of the Arts just finished in first at 47 points.
Cedar Ridge’s top finisher sophomore Ila Diaz, who came in 29th at 28:28.78. Isabella Taylor-Hall came in 29th at 28:55.05. Cedar Ridge finished fifth in the team standings at 145 points.
Men’s cross country: It’s stacking up to be a tight finish to men’s cross country season. Last Wednesday, Orange finished second behind the Durham School of the Arts in a Big 7 Conference meet at South Granville High School in Creedmoor.
Orange finished second despite having the top two runners, including another first place finish from senior Myles Jermyn, who clocked in at 17:28.12. Junior Gabriel Schmid came in second at 17:31.57. DSA had four runners finish in the top ten to edge Orange in the team standings with 35 points. Orange came in with 47. Alexander Juarez-Lopez came in third at 18:51.63 for DSA, while the Bulldogs’ Christopher Gkoulioumis-Mantzoukas finished fourth at 19:28.58.
Orange freshman Jack Crandall came in fifth (20:02.60).
DSA’s Jack Walquist-Evans came in seventh at 20:23.01.
Henry Alexander was the top Cedar Ridge finisher coming in 19th at 21:45.02. The Red Wolves finished 4th in the team standings out of six teams with 132 points.
On Saturday, in the 41st Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational, Jermyn finished second in a race involving 130 other competitors among 24 other teams. Jermyn clocked in at 15:34.10, behind only Owen Munn of the Greensboro Gladiators Home School team, who finished at 15:20.42. Van Mater finishes fifth at 16:14.98. Grant Schmid of Orange finished ninth at 16:24.83.
Cedar Ridge senior John Ngunjiri Jr. was the top Red Wolf finisher at 16:43.46. The Red Wolves Ryan Matthews finished 21st at 17:05.32.
