Orange men’s soccer’s Carson Condon, Yurem Mendez & Dallas Johnson discuss win over Northern Durham

It was a test of patience for the Orange men’s soccer team on Monday night, but the Panthers broke through for a 1-0 victory over Northern Durham in its home opener. Carlos Condon collected a tight pass from Yurem Mendez and rolled it into the right corner of the net, the only shot that got pass Northern Durham goalkeeper Alexi Fernandez all night. It was Condon’s second goal of the season and his first game-winner. Senior Captain Dallas Johnson controlled play on the defensive end for much of the night. Junior goalkeeper Hector Garrido earned his second clean sheet of the season as Orange improved to 3-2. Orange’s quickness was apparent throughout the game as Ajali Carter and Demitrius Holmes gave the Panthers numerous scoring opportunities. It was Orange’s third game in five days. Orange controlled possession for most of the game and limited Northern’s opportunities. It was the Panthers second straight win over the Knights as Orange bounced back from a disappointing loss to C.B. Aycock at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Orange’s backline of Jay Parker, Logan Edwards, Johnson and John Williams provided a stout defense. The Panthers will return home to face Southern Durham on Wednesday night in Hillsborough. The Spartans defeated Southeast Alamance on Monday.
