The 2025-2026 academic year got off to a thrilling start on Tuesday night for Cedar Ridge volleyball. The Red Wolves fought off Person 3-2 to win its season-opener, as well as the first match for new head coach Khoury May. In her first varsity match, freshman Dani Solomon finished with 16 kills, including five kills in the decisive fifth set. Senior Claire Hargett, who is on pace to finish her career with over 1,000 kills, started the season with 18 kills and 12 digs as the Red Wolves defeated Person for the tenth straight time. Person led 23-21 late in the first set before Hargett notched consecutive kills, starting a string of four consecutive Cedar Ridge points. Calla Lundberg and Kayla Stoll earned points to put the Rockets away 25-23 to capture the opening frame. Hargett would rack up four more kills in the second set, a frame where Cedar Ridge didn’t trail. Solomon, a 6-foot-2 freshman, arrives to Cedar Ridge from Discovery Charter School. Last year, Cedar Ridge tied Orange for the Central Conference regular season championship. The Red Wolves return setter Mia Marty, along with Stoll as middle blocker and outside hitter Ellamarie Perel. Cedar Ridge will return to action against Southeast Alamance on Thursday night at Red Wolves Gymnasium.
