This week is a dead period for high school sports. Van Smith could use it. Over the past two months, Orange completed spring practice, then lost an offensive coordinator. Since then, Smith hired a new offensive coordinator in former Jordan-Matthews head coach Marty Scotten, who was approved by the Orange County School Board last week. Scotten had a chance to work with his new team last week during summer workouts. As for Smith, he’ll have to work with a new group of linebackers after the graduation of Colin Guentensberber, Jett Satterfield and Hunter Pettiford. Orange’s season starts at R.J. Reynolds in Winston-Salem on August 23.
